The Sappey-en-Chartreuse is the closest resort to Grenoble (about ten kilometers). In twenty minutes, a Grenoble resident is on the slopes. Located on the southern balconies of the Chartreuse massif, this charming village is at 1,000 m altitude, at the foot of Chamechaude, the highest point of the massif (2082 m).
The top of the ski area is served by the Grand Sommard ski lift and has two magnificent red slopes (Grand Sommard and Pré du Plat). The total vertical drop between the top resort of Grand Sommard and the bottom of the ski area is around 415 m.
We offer private lessons for all ages and all levels as well as group lessons from ourson to gold star. In summer, we practice hiking. In winter, you can also practice cross-country skiing (7 slopes - 42 km) and alpine skiing. Please note that group lessons for beginners in skiing and snowboarding are available for adults and teenagers. A small ski school but great results!
The ESF du Sappey will be happy to welcome you in this place steeped in history and close to its roots. The little ones will be able to take their first slides in complete safety at the Piou Piou Club, while the older ones will be able to indulge in the joys of alpine skiing and snowboarding.
The practice of alpine skiing is attested at the Sappey at the beginning of the 20th century, as a competition was notably being organized there as early as 1907. The resort is thus more than a hundred years old! The first ski lift was built in 1947 (TKD La Pale) by an enlightened electrician. The other lifts were built in 1970.
Today, the resort has 5 ski lifts (4 TKD - 1 TKF). The ski area, oriented north-west, is divided into two sectors and spreads between 950 m and 1370 m of altitude. The lower part of the relatively flat and easy ski area (maximum vertical drop 160 m) is designed for beginners and intermediate skiers. It offers 2 green slopes and 2 blue slopes.
